Applications Open for the NYSPEP Parenting Educator Credential
Parenting Educators are invited to apply for the NYSPEP Parenting Educator Credential. The NYSPEP Credential recognizes your professional development and competence and gives you increased visibility in the field of parenting education. The application process involves developing a portfolio to document your knowledge, skills and competencies for work in the field of parenting education.
Application deadlines for the credential are January 31, April 31, July 31, and October 31 each year.
Those who are preparing applications will have the opportunity to participate in group sessions with a mentor to help guide you through the application process..

What is the NYSPEP Parenting Educator Credential?
The NYSPEP Parenting Educator Credential is a professional recognition system that formally assesses and acknowledges professional parenting educators' education, training, skills and experience and also serves as a career path for those in the field. The Credential allows government, and other funders and stakeholders to rely on well-defined and uniform domains of competence, while the public is assured of broad expertise that enables educators to meet parents' individual needs. The Credential gives parenting educators professional visibility and demonstrates their commitment to accountability, professional growth, and continued practice in the field of parenting education.
Credential applicants submit a portfolio documenting their competency learned through education, training, and experience. A panel of Credentialed Parenting Educators evaluates applicant portfolios in order to establish and grant certification to those professionals who are worthy of the NYSPEP Credential.

NYSPEP encourages all those who support families and facilitate the growth and development of parents through support and education to apply for the Parenting Educator Credential, regardless of work setting or job title. The NYSPEP Credential encourages and recognizes an educator's professional growth and development through a portfolio-based demonstration of the parenting educator's competence, gives parenting educators professional visibility and demonstrates their commitment to accountability, professional growth, and continued practice in the field of parenting education. Three levels of certification recognize increasing levels of education, training, and experience.
